Yes, it can align the spinal vertebrae and loosen the joints.

This also requires some muscular strength to hold the aligned spine in place..
In other words, if you have developed a skewed posture it will take some time to repattern both the vertebrae and rotator cuffs etc, and then the muscles to "hold" the new alignment integrity.

If you are tense- massage will help relax and allow the muscles to stretch enough to allow your vertabrae space to align.

Depending how long you've been in this condition it may take yoga, massage, and chiropractor to heal and align. If it is your lower back- how are your abdominals?

remember to love yourself and be gentle...a stretch yoga-hatha or a "gentle" yoga is a good start if you're really stiff.
