lower hunger (I could never seem to get enough food)
less urine (I went all the time)
more weight gain (was gaining about only 1-2 pounds a month without barley water and went to 4-5 pounds a month with it.)

I like black barley.
whole barley is difficult to find, pearled barley is about all they have in the store.
I roast the barley or oats. It is more warming, tastes better and seems to work better for me. I pan roast until light brown then bring to a boil then simmer for 1-2 hours. the longer you simmer the yummyer it is. Strain and toss the barley. I found eating the barley upset my candida. Barley also works unroasted but the oats seem to be to starchy unroasted and turns to a thin oatmeal like substance. I drink warm not hot and refrigerate the remainder. nice morning drink.
I use whole oats, I don't think cracked or rolled would work. turns out too starchy. You are mearly extacting the minerals from the grain, you are not really interested in the starch.
There are recipes for grain gruel or congee if you want the starch. these are used for the frail and very ill when they can eat nothing else. Very easy to digest.
