When I was young, my mom totally changed our lifestyle over the period of one year. We were young and didn't notice. My father, who has never been into health food, didn't even notice. I would work on the liefstyle and see what behavior seems to change among your children. If you are going to do ice cream, try to find the best ice cream you can (best in terms of fewer bad ingredients). You might even try sorbet, but I would definitely phase this out as well. When I was little our sweet treat was an occasional homemade oatmeal bar, some sort of concoction of my mom's made out of whole oats, honey, brown sugar, sesame seeds, and a few other things. What an extravagance that would be for me right now. I am suddenly very hungry.
