I have UC- and am currently experiencing my first flare- yay!! Anyways, to give to you a little insight - my father has had UC since his early 20's (like me). A couple of years ago- when he had to stop smoking- his UC hit full force. After trying all the other BS remedies proved useless (Pred etc..) his GI doc got him on remicade. I'll tell you right now- it works like a freakin charm - almost instant remission, and no flares whatsoever while on it!! This is also the case for many crohns patients (which is what it sounds like youve got- since the colestomy didnt work, it has to be crohns!) Really sucks you went through the surgury only to find it didnt work, it even says in some pamphlets Ive read that that is the worst possible outcome of the surgery- to find you didnt need it! I really feel for you. Remicade is an immuno-suppressant, and comes with its own risks, but far less than those associated with the Pred. I'll note here also that the HMO that my father belonged to took him off the remicade because they didnt feel it was an apprpriate therapy, and was too expensive for them. He has since gotten a colestomy and is back to being the man I knew him as - but with a bag of couse. I hope you can get ahold of this medication, and I hope it works for you! Good luck!
