Re: fecal body odor

Sorry to hear about your predicament, SM. You might look into your digestive tract, since along with nutrients, the intestines absorb a little of everything that gets into them, including various compounds and digestive wastes, toxins, and even odors (one example would be garlic consumption resulting in garlic skin odor).

This one doctor, who promotes low or no-meat diets, states the following, although something that's missed here is the fact that most folks who eat meat DON'T have Body Odor (first link): "To make odor matters worse, a large portion of the sulfur (from meat) that does not leave with the feces and flatus is absorbed through the intestinal walls, into the blood stream where it is excreted in the urine or into the breath and sweat as foul breath and Body Odor ."

If you also often have malodorous gas or bowel movements, this might suggest any of several gastrointestinal distubances, and this could possibly result in a fecal Body Odor , I would venture. Information on Comprehensive Stool Analyses can be found in link #2. I would suggest investing in one, if only to rule out certain digestive shortcomings. In the meantime, you might experiment with such things as high-potency probiotics (or a large serving each day of unsweetened yogurt which contains LIVE acidophilus and bifidus cultures), digestive enzymes, and activated charcoal pills -- I'd keep my expectations low while trying these things, but they're cheap and safe to try. Examples of such products are immediately below, and all can be found at your local health food shops. You should also evaluate your diet, ensuring you're focusing on whole grains, low saturated fats, and plenty of vegetables/fruits, while avoiding sugars, excessively fatty foods, and refined flours. Best wishes for a full recovery!
