Re: What About Taking Progesterone??

Dear Lauren,

I am so sorry to hear about the miscarriages. I had a miscarriage a number of years ago. I feel your intense sense of loss and I know the ordeal you went through with the medical procedures.

I think, personally, that you should really consider progresterone. But what I suggest is that you read Dr. Lee's book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause (this should be underlined but I can't underline in this format). Maybe it should be retitled: More Than Any Woman Would Ever Want to Know About Menopause. You can pick the book up at the library or at any bookstore for about $10. Dr. Lee has another book about perimenopause that I haven't read yet.

The book explains what is happening to our bodies as we enter our forties and prepare for menopause at around age fifty. Our progesterone levels do go down and we get to the point where we can no longer support a pregnancy- hence the miscarriages. Our cycles become more and more irregular and we get mood swings as never before (one doctor friend of mine says menopause means "cause for men to pause." LOL He's male and the women in the room almost lynched him right there!).

Dr. Lee recommends natural progesterone cream with a wild yam base, if I recall. I don't have any brand that I recommend in particular. The strength is important, and that is outlined in the book.

You could tell your doctor that you would like to experiment with natural progresterone cream and see how that works. I think there is a prescription strength progesterone that you could ask for if the over the counter stuff doesn't seem to be working for you.

Your doctor does want you to have a good cycle to make sure that "all systems are go" after your miscarriage. There really could be some reason why you haven't started yet, and the doc can help you find out why if it's not a simple hormones-out-of-whack problem.

Read the book, educate yourself, and you'll make an informed decision about progesterone.

Blessings and hugs,
-Donna
