Less painful delivery

I'm curious to know...

Dr. Schulze and Dr. Christopher often said that a woman's cramps are worse each month of her period if she is constipated, since the uterus butts up against the lower intestines. I wonder if contractions during childbirth are also made worse by a constipated bowel and eased by a cleansed one?

Anyone know?
