Re: Here's how you get past it

Any kind of abuse, especially sexual damages your ability to trust other people as well as trust yourself. There is usually an underlying feeling of shame and guilt and feeling as though you are the one to blame for what happened. Children are egocentric, they think everything is related to them.
You need to start to feel inside yourself where you are storing all of your bad feelings and start to let them out. This can be a VERY hard process. Some books that I really recommend to help you are The Courage to Heal by Ellen Bass and Laura Davis and Rebuilding the Garden by Karla Mclaren. These books helped me tremendously and are still helping me as I go through different stages of healing.
Everyone has their own way of dealing with traumitic childhood events. I don't recommend harbouring anger towards that person, because then they are still affecting you and damaging you. Acid does the most damage to the vessel it's stored in!
Please go and get some books or talk to someone about what you are going through. Don't underestimate how what happened to you is affecting every area of your life. Does your partner know about the abuse? It can be very hard to go through this, so you need to be with someone who can support 200%, I'm not kidding. If this person can't be there for you, let them go and know when you have started healing that you will attract healthier realtionships.
Please email me if you need some support!
