Re: What's wrong with me?
Your comments are a common one from an increasing number of women.
Sex is a normal activity for men and women. It is usually accompanied by a desire to engage in it.
Lack of sex drive for a normal healthy woman may be quite common, but it is not normal.
One thing that can lead to this is hormone imbalance. It is becoming increasingly common for women to be suffering from low progesterone levels at earlier ages in life, while their estrogen levels remain fairly high.
There is a wealth of information about this on the Internet. The godfather of this field of study is Dr. John Lee, who died of a heart attack in Oct 2003. Yet he did write a number of very good books, and left a rich written legacy on the Internet.
You see, progesterone in women provides for normal healthy secretions to the uterus that supports pregnancy. Did you also know that it has a major impact on libedo? Women with no interest in normal sexual activity frequently suffer from low progesterone levels.
This can be quite a dangerous situation if left to itself. Here's why.
Estrogen is a class of hormones that supports feminization in women, and especially their reproductive cycle. The message of estrogen to a cell is to delay normal cell death (apoptosis) and to grow.
When held in check and balanced, this is normal and healthy. When not balanced, it can lead to the development of various cancers.
Well, guess what balances estrogen in women? Yes--progesterone.
Progesterone's message to a cell is to stop growing, and to die on time in a normal way (apoptosis). It is in this way that progesterone is in some way anticancerous.
When progesterone production falls in fertile women it leaves estrogen unbalanced.
The only way to know if your progesterone is low is to have your hormones tested. Saliva assay is the most accurate way to do this, and most medical doctors don't yet know this.
Most doctors will test hormones in blood plasma. They take a sample of blood and put it in a centrifuge. When spun, this spearates the plasma from the other elements of the blood. The plasma (watery part) is then tested for the presence of hormones.
But, the only thing present in the plasma is protein bound hormones that have been processed for excretion by the liver. The free bioavailable hormones hate water and love fat. They're hitching a ride on the lipid membranes of red blood cells. But these have been discarded before the test is done.
So to test your hormone levels by blood gives an inaccurate picture of bioavailable hormones in the body and leads to hormone overdose in treatment.
It is precisely this misunderstanding that has lead some doctors to think that progesterone is poorly absorbed. They administer it and test for it, and the increase barely shows up in the blood, whereas if they'd tested the saliva it would have shown up.
If you are concerned about your hormone levels then saliva assay is the only way to go. You should seek out a good doctor for help with bioidentical hormone replacement, but they are difficult to find.
Let's be clear here. You don't want ERT (Estrogen Replacement Therapy) and you don't want conventional HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) by prescription from a conventional doctor. These are dangerous and have led to cancer in the past. They still do.
You are after a bioidentical progesterone hormone creame that is rubbed into the skin and absorbed into the blood stream over an 8 hour period of time.
You don't want it unless you need it. And you don't want more than you need. This is why it's important to get your hormones tested. You'll be shooting for progesterone levels between 200 and 300 times the level of your estradiol.
You should be aware that taking birth control pills (synthetic progesterones) is a major factor in disrupting progesterone levels in women, and are unwise in their own right. This is a statement about future prospects for a woman's health and not one about family planning.
You really need to start reading on the subject and then find a good doctor who can help you regain you balance if it's out of whack.
Good luck.
