Don't know if this will help, but I am a recently diagnosed 49 year old ADDer who used to have the nickname "itchybottom", so I understand that hyperactivity thing. You might want to try a combination of two things--5-HTP, which is a precursor to serotonin (which has a calming affect and improves depression, which is often expressed as anger) and DL-Phenylalanine, a precursor to dopamine (which improves alertness and helps neurons to fire more completely). I have found that the "ADD fog" and hyperactivity are due to being "not quite awake", due to sleep disorders (I have delayed sleep onset--my normal sleep hours are 2am to 10am, which wreaks havoc on regular working hours!) and a feeling of extreme tiredness, which causes irritability, impulsiveness, and moodiness. Both of the abovementioned substances are naturally-occurring substances in the human body, so they will not cause side effects. Your son may need more available neurochemicals to control his behavior, just as I do. I used an SSRI and Amphetamine for a year with good results, but when I added the DLPhenylalanine--what a difference! My impulsivity dropped, my mood swings decreased, and I am much calmer.
Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps.
