Great Question...and a couple of others. Re: Colon Health

I've read on the Oxypowder and Colosan, and I'm quite confused.

I understand that relying upon ANY cathartic to achieve regular bowel movements will ultimately weaken the musculature of the intestinal tract. But if one has a choice between a product that will stimulate peristalsis to cause a bowel movement, and one that cleanses by the use of something that causes a bowel movement without utilizing the muscles of the intestines at all...to my brain/current level of knowledge, it would seem to be better to at least keep the muscles squeezing- that way they wouldn't atrophy to the point of being virtually impossible to restore. (I'm thinking here along the lines of someone who is in a coma as a comparison...without regular movement of their muscles by a person or machine, they risk having a very difficult time regaining muscle tone and strength). So my first question is, can you explain why it is you prefer the oxygen/magnesium based products (?) because I've read they don't cause peristalsis

The second thing I'm not grasping, is this: Epsom Salts are magnesium sulfate, and one of the effects of taking it internally is that they cause water to be drawn from the body into the intestines (do I have that right?), which then, in turn flushes the contents of the intestines downward...and this happens with no muscle activity from the colon (or so I'm assuming from what I've read). I've also read that the use of magnesium sulfate as a regular cathartic is virtually death to the colon. So I go to the colosan website, and here's what I see as the ingredients of Colosan and the way it works:

>>Colosan is a compound of magnesium and oxygen in which the magnesium atoms form a loose lattice onto which oxygen is bonded by a catalytic process. When taken with lemon juice or other acidic juice, that oxygen is released inside the digestive tract, producing powerful de-toxifying effects. It cleanses the bowel, and has anti-fungal /candidal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. ****The beneficial action is derived from the prescence of magnesium peroxide, magnesium superoxide and magnesium ozonide.**** << (my asterisks)

So instead of only magnesium sulfate, Colosan has magnesium peroxide, superoxide AND ozonide. So my left brain is screaming...OMG, that's THREE "magnesiums" at a time, wouldn't that be three times the concern of one "magnesium"? I know I must be missing something here (and I'm positive I don't have the knowledge in chemistry to understand the various forms of magnesium), but I would be MOST appreciative if you'd help me to understand (IF you can possibly spare the time :) I certainly don't want you to take time away from anyone in discomfort just to explain this to me.

My basic question #2, then I guess, is basically this: magnesium floods with water and cause bowel activity without peristalsis...does the addition of "-oxide, -superoxide and -ozonide (oxygen I assume) to the magnesium, somehow cause peristalsis along with the flushing (and other benefits of the oxygen)...and that's why it's okay to use a magnesium form of cathartic over long periods?

I sure am looking forward to your answer...even if it's just a link where I can go and figure it out for myself.

Thank you.
