There is a terrific astrology book by Steven Forrest -- I can't seem to find it, or the name of it -- but his first book 'The Changing Sky' may lead you to it. The first book is about the nuts and bolts of astrology; but, the second which is very interesting, speaks about the signs' purposes here.
So, Virgo, who is always critical -- and that includes self-critical, so we must be kinder toward ourselves -- is the one who can spot a spelling mistake a mile away -- or anything that is wrong -- by so noting the specific, we forget to enjoy the bigger picture! Also, we are always in pursuit of knowledge so that we can share it with our loved ones -- whether they wish to receive it is quite another question. :) Our critical nature is extremely valuable when there is a problem to assess and resolve. We understand the number of details that are involved in any project and are most capable of handling them.
Perhaps you are a more private person than you imagine. Perhaps more of a loner, too. I don't like being hemmed in by groups and the resulting politics.
So, give a sincere compliment to someone -- someone's new hairdo, pretty colour of clothing -- something which is real and which is easy for you to say; you'll find that most people are quite surprised and most pleased by your noticing. Few people take the time to pass a simple compliment. That's a start. As you do these small things for others, you will become more confident in yourself.
Although you may not be interested at this time, you might want to discover astrology or numerology along the line; these studies can give you great clues to the energies around you and to your purpose and challenges while here. If nothing else, it is great fun, but these studies are very old and have stood the test of time. And you might find that they appeal to you.
Take care, be kind to yourself and say one nice thing to someone every day. :)
