Re: Colon cleansing for kids?
stillhopin, it is essential that you get your children into the habit of having a bowel movement every day, not every other day, or 2 or 3 times a week Especially with your daughter. Girls who do not have regular movements by the time they reach puberty, more often than not tend to suffer from sluggish bowels and constipation throughout life.
Boys on the other hand, are more likely to outgrow it and often improve their bowel regularity throughout their teen years and beyond. It has been suggested that this may be the result of a higher level of physical activity of boys as compared to girls, but as studies over the past decade have shown, that gap is narrowing. Boys and girls are both spending more time in front of their computers and TV's and less time engaged in physical activity.
I totally disagree with doctors and other health care providers who tell parents not to worry about their children's bowel habits. Good bowel habits are an essential part of good health, and you are right to be concerned about that with your children.
