Re: No BM after 8 day MC...HELP!!!

How did you break your fast? On a fast, metabolism stops. The peristaltic action pauses, the stomach doesn't produce acid, the liver doesn't secrete bile or make enzymes. Restarting the metabolism is a slow process.

For the first few days, eat foods with high water content, a good mix of vitamins and minerals, but low caloric density. Best are whole fresh fruits and above ground veggies, gently cooked to make them easier to digest.

On the first day, simply drink fruit or veggie juice, chewing it to stimulate secretion of digestive juices. On the second day, have a breakfast of fruit, lunch and dinner of steamed veggies seasoned with a squeeze of lemon. Before bed, eat more fruit.

Hopefully, you'll have some sort of natural elimination by the morning of the 3rd day. Eat no fats, no concentrated protein, no dried fruits, nuts, etc. until your digestion is moving again. If you haven't had an elimination, keep eating light foods until you have one.

Then add something like almond butter on carrot sticks, to give you a bit of fat and protein. Start slowly, giving your liver a chance to start producing bile and the rest of the metabolic enzymes again. If you eat too much fat or protein too quickly, your system won't have the enzymes it needs to digest it. Ugh!

If you got yourself into this situation, you're probably stopped up with partially digested food that is stuck in the digestive system. An enema can help clear things out, but it is important to encourage your digestion to resume normal function -- don't keep taking enemas or you will become dependent on them. Eat lots of fruits and veggies until you're back to normal. Then continue to eat lots of fruits and veggies, as well as adding good fats and protein sources.
