I was responding to Mr. Steve's post. You have enlightened me. I see that the ground was cursed when Cain gave his offering to God where when Abel's offering was more pleasing to God, he killed Abel, his own brother.
17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
After Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge God punished them by cursing the ground they walked on.
However, still both of their Cain and Abel's offerings came from the same field, area, location. After Cain killed Abel God banished Cain and said,:
12When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
