Re: Johnny Vegas...

Yes johnny

I lived in Myanmar for 18 months. I managed a riverboat for 8 months and ran 10 day trips from Mandalay to the Chinese border. The government there isnt going to change, not for a long time and even if it did, Im not sure if it would get better. I admire Aung San Suu Kyi for her devotion and commitment but on a cynical side she is also a politician and now is bordering on sainthood. The other thing is since all the different ethinic groups are all united against the burmese government and she is their leader, but what would happen if all of a sudden they decided she could run the country? Like anyone would give up the kind of power they have anyway, thats a pipe dream. All those groups would be then vying for power and it would start up all over again. One thing I learned from living there is that the burmese can only have one leader, I learned that first hand in a not so pleasant way so with all these different views it would just go to hell in a hand basket. Too many chiefs not enough indians syndrome. Same thing in Afganistan, even though the Taliban is out, all the different ethinc groups have decided that they want to run the country and the mayhem has started up again. Its all power isnt it? Also Myanmar is in china's pocket and the americans wont do anything to freak out china thats for sure, at least not now. I love Georgie's statement that "Myanmar poses a extrodinary threat to the americans" Please. I love the burmese dearly but you cant wake them up half the time ( i say this with great affection) Its all bloody political anyway and they are going to do want they want at the end of the day. the americans buy military fabric from them! Dick Cheny is chairman of a oil company in burma! I think its important to go to these countries and see what is going on for yourself. I cant tell you how many people have something to say about the fact that I lived there. Its very easy to judge from your own country and sitting in that nice easychair watching cnn! What is this doing for the people? nothing Theyre going to get the money anyway, tourist dollars arent supporting them, they dont have enough and Myanmr has vast resources, oil, jade, OPIUM, gem mines galore, teak, that the chinese are taking like mad. I dont mean to go on and on and im sorry this is all over the place but I have a feeling you get what i mean, im just not good at writing it! ( and i just saw something else earlier on Myanamar that irriated me) Anyway I like reading your posts, you make alot of sense, i wish i could write like that!

Karen

This isnt the gospel obviously, just some theories i have for what its worth!
