Re: Some simple definitions.

The kind of love that we are supposed to have for our fellow human being is called COMPASSION (genuinely caring for the welfare of our fellow human being). It is not to become an obsession, but it is the mark of the Christian, if you don't have love, you are nothing 1 Corinthians 13 (the whole chapter). New Testament Christianity is LOVE, taught by The Holy Spirit, God is love, 1 Corinthians 13 is the love chapter, get to know it. The chapter doesn't necessarily make sense, love is a very alien concept to the human race, genuinely caring for each other doesn't really make sense to us, killing each other does. 1 Corinthian 13:13 says..."So, faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE". It is impossible to please God without faith, but faith must be borne out of LOVE. The LOVE that the Christian should have should not be a forced emotion, but a true SENTIMENT. Imagine how Job loved God when he said..."Though He slay me, yet shall I love Him". Imagine how much Paul loved the brethren when He said..."I could rather wish that I were set apart and cut off from God for the sake of the brethren" (of course that's not possible, that's why He said "I COULD rather wish..."), it's the "genuine" SENTIMENT that makes a Christian, not just salvation. That SENTIMENT is the motive for the Christian to do what the Lord requires of us...AND MORE. Faith is SIMILAR to confidence and trust. In order for people to believe that alternative medicine can work, FAITH is required (not spiritual faith, but, it IS faith). Words are used in different CONTEXTS and cause misunderstandings. The word FAITH is, at times, used to refer to a belief system (Christianity is A "faith"), but the word "faith" actually means "the ability to believe in what you don't see, but REASON to be true".
I once asked the Lord to help me write a poem (a short one). He made it short alright, very short. I just wanted to write about the BASIC thoughts that brought me to Him. It shows how important the two principles of faith and (sentimental) love really are.

Godquest

Have you ever wondered about the stars in the sky,
what makes them twinkle and what makes them fly?

Do you understand what you don't see,
or know how we came to be?

Will we return to from where we came,
and if not, who's to blame?

Ask these questions of your conscience my friend,
so that you may discover the...
GREAT GODSEND.

The first stanza only means that you have to be a thinker. The second means that you have to have the ABILITY to have FAITH. The third means that we have to have SENTIMENTAL love for our [heavenly] home and heritage. The fourth means that we have to submit these questions to our conscience (be conscientous, some have made shipwreck of THEIR faith by rejecting conscience 1 Timothy 1:19), and that we must be able to realize our Lord and Savior as our hero also.

All Hail The White Knight of Salvation

The strangest babbling it may seem,
He's always been my wildest dream.

but now I know that through Jesus His Son,
He rescued me from the evil one.

and it's not just for me that He came from above,
it's for all of you
whom I dearly love.

I used to ask the Creator to send someone in His name to rescue the people from a misery filled and ill-fated existence. It was not until I was convinced that God's truth is in the bible that I knew who that was. Christians are supposed to be able to recognize all of the pain, misery, suffering, lying, cheating, corruption, etc. in the world (let your laughter be turned to tears and your joy to dejection James 4:9) and even, at times, get depressed, like Lot (his heart was sorely vexed). We are supposed to have a CONTRITE and gentle heart. That is what LOVE is supposed to mean to the Christian, and FAITH in Him(TRUST) is supposed to be based on our LOVE for Him and His children.

God has put it upon you to want to understand the two most important principles of Christianity.

God bless you,
been there, done that
