Re: cover story
Hello nooley,
I hope you are feeling better when you read this. Hebrews 11:6 says that it is impossible to please God without faith (not ONLY faith). Maybe you worded your post wrong or maybe this is just my own understanding, but, 1 Cor. 13:13 "So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love". That gives me the understanding that faith must be borne out of love. I consider both faith and love to be integral (it may actually be a moot point) and love is the foundation of faith. It is your mention of "ONLY" faith that I think might be a common oversight in teaching Christianity today, or, maybe it is my misunderstanding theologically or doctrinally. Love is a special subject to me (God is love) and there are different beliefs or understandings about the types of love. The common understanding from scripture is that there are four, my friend in seminary told me that some denominations (I am talking about born again) believe that there are nine, or even sixteen. I used to have a neighbor who was Episcopalian, she showed me a Catholic book that listed one thousand types of love. I understand that there can be 4 different "ways" of showing love, or, 4 different intensities, behaviors, etc., but I am not sure how to understand all of this. Since there is only one God, all I can understand is one love. I believe, that, as Christians, we should make a habit out of studying 1 Cor. 13 (the LOVE chapter), but, it seems that "love" is such an alien concept to the human race, that the chapter is neglected in study. I was told by some pastors that the chapter is a "picture" of how it will be in heaven (an earthly statement of a heavenly goal), but I think it is a "heavenly" statement of an earthly goal(Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven). I cannot make a clear distinction between "faith" and "love" in Jesus. Do I misunderstand something (ONLY faith)? (God is love)
been there, done that
