Re: Why is this?

I am an older Christian (I've been a Christian for 17 years). I felt that I should point that out because I will be expressing my current understanding and attitudes (Romans 12:2 "...be transformed by the renewing of your MINDS"). A true Christian is not a product of the WORDS of the bible or Church doctrine (of course the bible is an indispensable GUIDE to the Christian and is the true word of God), but is a product of having Jesus, not just as their Lord and Savior, but as their HERO. Many people only call themselves Christians because they actually believe that only knowing the WORDS of the bible and Christian doctrine makes them Christian, but are really not dedicated to Jesus, but there also many young Christians who haven't been taught PROPERLY or don't yet understand that a true Christian will behave differently because they THINK differently (in the MIND). The "mind" is a combination of the "brain" and the "heart". After salvation, the Holy Spirit teaches us to have a "contrite" and gentle heart so that we will think differently, and, therefore, BEHAVE differently, but, everyday life, does not always allow us to be good students. If you know people who don't consider Jesus to ALSO be a HERO to them, they need to understand that their behavior is not always what Jesus would approve of. Explain this to them GENTLY and in private (Whenever you speak to someone in public about their misbehavior, they tend to be self-conscious and get defensive and be unreasonable and not hear your words).
