Re: Gallbladder Surgery Experience

Not only was my gall bladder full of stones but so was my common bile duct. The surgeon had to cut my duct to remove the stones. A "T" shaped tube is placed in the duct as it is sewed back together to prevent bile from leaking into the abdomen. The tube is a little over a foot long with about a 2 inch T. The straight end of the tube sticks out of your side into a pouch where bile drains into it for the first couple of days. Once your GI tract starts moving (passing gas) the bag is removed and the end of the tube clamped off so that the bile empties into your GI. After about 4 weeks you go into the doctors office where he literally "pulls" the tube out. Not really painful - but uncomfortable. It's great finally having it gone! (Can take a real shower again)
