I am not aware of the paper in the BMJ, and I will try to read it in detail. But from my experience, most wisdom teeth, esp impacted ones, cause more problems than not. And often times when they cause problems, they cause problems not merely to themselves, but often to adjacent teeth or surrounding tissue. In fact, it is not very common for me to see a partially impacted wisdom tooth in an older individual without problems.
