They once used DDT on the growing cane fields, before DDT was banned. I had a friend who used to run through the cane fields when the plane would come over to dust. She and her friends would play "bombadier" games, if you can imagine. She later developed cancer, battled it for 20 years and finally died. Now they use something else, but it is still pesticides, stuff that organic cane is grown without.
My question is, and maybe moreless knows, is why on earth is blackstrap sulfured? Why mess around with it? My mother always bought unsulfured.
