I've seen both white and brown Basmati. The brown is just sitting in my pantry for now, I've been using the white. :) One of these days I'm going to try the brown in the Kichadi to see if I can still digest it as easily. I did terribly with California brown rice.
So I don't specify because I leave it up to the reader to make their own choice. I see nothing wrong with eathing white basmati, altho I must admit it has less B vitamins than the brown.
