Is one filling possibly dangerous?
I am aggravated more with myself at the moment, as I know my dentist genuinely believes this material is fine (my mother has been going to him for about 45 years). I'm not sure myself, but I don't feel like putting myself at risk to prove a point. I just got a
Amalgam filling earlier this morning. I had looked up fillings and other info the last two nights, but mainly to figure out if it would hurt and if/when a
root canal would be needed (something I was afraid may need to be done, it wasn't). I'm 21 and have never had any other dental work done, other than invisiline braces and normal checkups. I saw
Amalgam mentioned yesterday on a site, but it said that while there is some controversy over it, but that most dentists agree that it's safe and it's more durable than other material (which needs to be replace more often), I was satisfied and just left it at that and continued looking up what I was looking for. Afterward I asked what it was and he said amalgam. I was thinking of asking earlier (though I was nervous about having the cavity done and didn't think of it), but there didn't seem to be any real risk from what I read earlier and I would have agreed to it with minimal convincing (such as saying it's sturdier). Now I'm angry at myself and nervous, since I'm terrified of having mental problems, particularly things like alzheimers, when I'm older. Now I know that mercury is in salmon and other foods, so there is an amount our body can deal with. Is one really a big concern? I've seen one person with 3 who had a problem, everyone else seems to be above 5 fillings.
