There's flat-out binging, then there is eating as much as you want to (within reason) which would be way more than a tiny handful of nuts, which seems to be what you are suggesting. If you are trying to break an addiction to one thing, it's okay to have more of another thing for the short-term. I don't think that if I wanted junk food I could substitute a few carrot sticks, half an apple and 5 walnuts.
