going nuts!

I have been increasing the raw food percentage in my diet up to 60-70% during the past 2 weeks, but since weather is very cold I crave fat and sugary foods such as dried fruits and nuts. I am actually eating A LOT of them, especially dates and walnuts. My parents and other relatives keep telling me that eating large amonts of nuts is not healthy and causes the liver to strain. I would appreciate aNY comment and/or information about the "right" daily intake of nuts allowed in an healthy Diet and the red line which should not be crossed - if ever there is one, my mom says no more thaN 3 walnuts a day, I am eating about 20 with no trouble.
