Don't be afraid regarding hte chemo. As I said, press your mon's doctor for real data. Ask him how many people he knows of with similar situation to mom that have experienced remission with the chemo he prescribes. He will talk of such and such a response rate, but ask him if the repsonse rate is determined by tumor shrinkage or remission. Ask him if he has any data to show that the reported response rate results in any life benefit.
In most cases of advanced metastatic disease, abandoning chemo is not difficult once one knows the truth of how ineffective it is. The dr.s attitude of anything is better than nothing is good when "anything" is benign. At this point in your mom's sitation, the only thing chemo will do is to destroy what life she has left. I call it the chemo death spiral. Like a plane in an unrecoverable nose dive, it is a point of no return. I have seen it too much.
