Re: Autumnal Equinox

The Equinox and Solstice have definite effects on individuals, the planet, nature, everything. :) When we were more in tune with these cycles, it was common to take a break and celebrate each one. Often fasting was involved, because it was a great time to cleanse. Sometimes feasting was involved instead.

From Nature's standpoint, the fall Equinox is the day that begins the next year's cycle. It's the day that the call goes out to activate the energies that will be in place for the following year. It's a good time to call on the next step in your own personal evolution, to affirm that you're ready for it.

(This information is paraphrased from the Garden Workbook by Machaelle Small Wright)

Think of them as holidays much like Christmas. All year we try to be loving, kind, show appreciation, give gifts. We focus on the trees rather than the forest. During holidays like Christmas, we focus on the forest, the main ideas behind the acts, rather than the acts themselves. We think in broader terms, the principles that guide our actions, the Masters who have come before us and have tried to show us the way.

So at these times it's a great idea to think about WHY you are cleansing, changing your diet, trying to heal. Consider what you've done and what you haven't done. Consider new directions.
