Ok!
>my current thinking is that most of the effects of mercury are actually caused directly by deranged mineral transport.
Yes I suppose they both feed into eachother. Mercury no doubt affects mineral transport which in turn leaves you more susceptible to the effects of mercury. This would also be Mineral Check's view.
Also Patrick Holford says (in "Optimum Nutrition for the Mind") "Once we've ingested toxic minerals they must compete with other minerals for absorption. These minerals are called antagonists and form our first line of defence."
So if you're low in these already there's no hope for you! ;)
Anyway he mentions zinc acting as an antagonist to lead and cadmium and how calcium is good at keeping cadmium and aluminium down. Then selenium v mercury.
>More and more we are finding case studies of people being cured of various ailments just by taking various minerals.
Yes I know. They're far more important than vitamins and it takes longer to correct imbalances. I think if I'd addressed my mineral imbalances earlier, my endocrine system would be in much better shape than it is and would have been able to handle the mercury more, though probably still would have needed to chelate anyway.
>These minerals must be specificly tailored to the problem/person, in the correct dosage, and often in the correct form (e.g. citrate) for bioavailability.
Yes absolutely! The bioavailability counts for a LOT.
citrates are very bioavailable (Nutrigold have a good selection of citrate minerals).
>The following
http://www.coldcure.com/html/dep.html is a really good website about a guy who cured his longstanding
Depression with magnesium. He mentions that the form of magnesium is key, his preference being for taurate. Citrate minerals also tend to be well absorbed. The bad compounds are ones such as carbonate, sterate etc. The results can vary wildly, for example one journal article found "taking magnesium citrate was best absorbed, and that magnesium oxide was no better than taking placebo."
That website looks really interesting thanks for the link! :) I haven't read it all yet. Magnesium is soooo important. It's thought now though that magnesium chloride is better than mag citrate for absorbability. I used to take mag citrate, then moved onto chloride and now I'm taking mag taurate! I'm just a girl who can't make her mind up! ;) I found the citrate more detoxifying but the mag taurate better for memory. I'm studying natural nutrition and the teachers constantly go on and on about magnesium and how we need to continually supplement it to help potassium push out the sodium (and accompanying acids) for cell renewal/cleansing.
Anyway I agree with everything you say! Sorry for rambling on a bit, I'm just bored today!!
