Re: Hypothyroidism - diagnosting from hair tests
Thanks for posting this Johnny :) ...it should be really useful for people as conventional thyroid tests are usually quite unreliable (they usually just test TSH whereas you should get the full thyroid panel including freeT4, freeT3 etc). Mine are always 'normal' yet my symptoms scream hypo!
Also just to add to this, if anyone doesn't know already, low body temperature, under 97 F, when taken first thing in the morning is also a good way of diagnosing hypothyroid (for women best time to take is just before your period or during the first few days of your period, best not to take during ovulation). Take over 5 days and average out.
Interesting but I've been learning recently (from
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormones/) that the typical way of diagnosing thyroid problems changed in the 1970s from more comprehensive testing to just looking at the TSH. A few years after this chronic fatigue syndrome started to appear on the scene!! So it's been suggested to me that C.F.S. is really hypothyroid and if you deal with the hypo eg with things like Armour/dessicated thyroid then a lot of problems including digestive problems, disappear. A lot of women are finding this.
I don't necessarily agree completely with that....eg they seem to totally ignore candida but I do think there's a lot of undiagnosed hypothyroidism.
I'm going to order some glandulars today....but I still have a voice in my head saying "You don't need them!!!" :-0
Hope you're doing ok :)
