In Matthew 18:3,Jesus said ...
"Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven...". That verse is repeated in Mark 10:15 and Luke 18:17 with slightly different wording because Matthew,Mark, Luke and John wrote the gospel(s) from memory (the first 4 books of the New Testament are different accounts of Jesus's life on earth, apparently, John did not include that verse).
Yes, children only "see" and understand life as it really is (REALITY), but as we grow older, we learn to navigate reality and make believe we are "COOL" and have everything under [our] control (we try to form the PERCEPTION that we are "COOL") and are distracted by this effort. We end up not caring anymore about REALITY and learn to constantly care only about forming that PERCEPTION. That is "human nature", the flesh (the cares of the flesh...food on the table, rent, bills, clothes, etc. are natural and unavoidable distractions that need to be balanced with Godliness, difficult). Tom Brokaw (the newscaster) once said that the world is composed of PERCEPTION as much as it is REALITY (the discussion was about how we understand the information given to us by the media, that "all is well" perception does determine a persons' intelligence also, that is why RELIGIONS' all is well attitude keeps us from being truly spiritual). Often, people want to avoid reality in their lives (because they can't hack it) and actually NEED to form a perception that they are cool and "all is well". That is why the "Predators" (they need a piece of you, but also need to avoid reality) are NAYSAYERS, control freaks, judgemental,condescending,etc.). They ignore the fact that the world is falling apart from war, drugs, crime, starvation, disease, etc. and that millions of people die every month around the world. Their hearts are cold and they don't have any compassion or care that there is so much pain, misery, and suffering in the world, they just want (NEED, actually) to make believe that they are cool because their heart AND conscience have died. The child has a simple, pure, and straightforward view of reality, which includes the appreciation of it.
Avoiding reality is VERY serious, if you know someone close to you who does that, make a habit out of giving them them REALITY checks (but be careful, they're anal retentive and can be very nasty because their conscience bothers them) because, someday, their conscience might SENTENCE THEM TO DEATH (suicide). That's no exaggerration.
