Re: Atheism requires evolution
> I disagree - Athiesm no more "requires" evolution than a belief in god needs to deny evolution. Darwin was a christian, for eg.
There is an important asymmetry here which you have overlooked. Whilst I agree that belief in God doesn't need to deny evolution, belief in no-God does require an alternative explanation as to our existance.
> Naw, athiesm simply means no god. Requiring of it the burden to show where we did come from is not right.
I do not ask absolute proof, but mere plausible explanation would suffice.
> Evolution , as I have said so many times, could certainly be something that god works with, like he uses any natural process we see all around us, like photosynthesis or the laws of physics.
I totally agree. If evolution as a theory were scientifically plausible, I would have no problem accepting it. Unfortunately it isn't.
>But to answer your question, an explanation for out origin could be many things, including the obvious: "aliens who are ahead of humans in technology and
Science could have colonised earth millions of years ago with their DNA., and then left"
Obvious!?!? ;-) hardly. All it does is complicate the issue - where did these aliens come from? A hypothesis should be as simple as possible whilst fitting all the facts - no more. Read up on Occams razor.
> I am sure our race would colonise Mars if earth was going to be wiped out by a huge comet. Right?
It is not possible to colonize mars. We can't even colonize Antarctica (except by shipping in supplies from elsewhere).
> But as for the whole ball of life here, that got started by some amino acids I suppose, and a hit of electricity.
Some amino acids and a bit of electricity is about as deep an explanation as you are likely to come across for how life started via evolution I'm afraid.
> I would argue that being a christian or being an athiest is viable without knowing our origins.
I totally disagree. The whole point of being a Christian or an Atheist (or whatever) is that you are taking a stand on where we came from, what we are doing here, and where we are going to. Those are the 3 most important questions in life. If they aren't important then I'm afraid nothing is!
> And WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW!!!.
By that argument we don't need to know anything. If you prefer ignorance to knowledge then I am happy for you. As for me I prefer knowledge.
