I saw a video by a state agency a couple weeks ago that said a coyotes' diet was at least one percent cat. I've seen coyote urine sold in the hunting section of an outdoor adventure store in my town.

A quick search result - their sense of smell is fourteen times as sensitive than humans. They dislike citrus - lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, hot peppers, cinnamin, lavender, thyme, mustard, curry, eucalyptus, banana, germanium, rue, rosemary, wintergreen, tea tree oil.

Tea tree oil can cause kidney and liver damage in cats, and could also result in organ failures.

So the easiest option would be to leave crushed citrus peels around where you don't want cats.
