Re: wakey wakey, hands off snakey

I have spent over half a century listening and learning about how people choose to interpret their faith, the Bible, and their roles as Believers. There are many, many perspectives and the one that I have always found disturbing is the "living in end times" mantra. Every generation believed that they were living in the end times as they were foretold by the Prophets, etc.

My estimation is that time can be better spent living in the here-and-now and engaging in what I need to do on a daily basis to live a better life and to assist my fellow man, rather than focusing on predictions, signs, and alleged prophets. The neighbor that is elderly and hungry has my attention a bit more than giving an nanosecond of interest to the false prophesies of televangelists or the moaning of people who are terrified that the Rapture is near. Isn't that what Christians are anticipating with JOY? What's to fear and why is so much attention placed upon prophesy? If I'm doing what I need to in order to better myself each day and assist people in need, what does prophecy matter?

End times, indeed. If we knew the date and hour of this, what difference would that make. The message has been to beware the false prophets and teachers, and the reason is a very sensible one. Paying attention to the outside influences is an excuse for me to avoid paying attention to the things that I need to be working on, plain and simple.
