Great question.
As you well know, man has had his hand in this and obviously the bible has very little originality due to different nations of power.
Language, politics, even kings writing there interpretation to fill there ego. A man burnt at the stake for heresy simply by helping the common people able to read the bible, then a little later that same bible being put into the public because the roman church (catholics) wanted money from his coffers.
Interpretation and much, much more so yes, you are correct with your assumptions because the bible now is a bloody mess and how people can glorify it is beyond my comprehension albeit most people 'see' the book as an authority over their lives.
So yes "what did people think 3000 years ago? 2000 years ago? 1000 years ago?"
Will we ever get to the original and would that be much more of the same?
Who existed to tell their story from their own hand, and were those stories concocted for say the sake of their religious, political and selfish beliefs.
Many people have died due to those people and what their scribes wrote for their intended power for themselves,
and to think that what they wrote was for a 'god' that one could not see.
A resurrection to suit(the cornerstone of Christianity)
That away and there are empty pages.
...and so it goes on irrespective of the truth, MMMMMMmmmmm????
