Tansybelle, it's actually not a bad place to be, where you are at right now, as uncomfortable as it might be. I have been there myself, many times.

But confusion and distress about all these things can be a good thing in that it should drive us to God, humbling ourselves before Him, telling Him we don't know all the answers, we are confused, we are distressed, and then ask Him to show us the truth, and give us peace and understanding for that truth.

I was distressed and confused about something just recently, but I just kept asking God to help me and show me the truth. The answers didn't come right away but they eventually did. We have to just keep going to God for these things, and if we really want to know the truth, I believe he'll show us.

You've asked some hard questions in this post. Ask God those questions and then ask Him to show you in His word the answers. His word is the only authority for truth. And I'll be honest, the truths of the bible will offend our human nature because our human nature, the sinful nature we were born with, is against God. But there is real freedom and peace in submitting to God's truths despite our own human understanding of things.
Isaiah 55 says:

8For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
9For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Everywhere we look in this world, we will see confusion. But in God's word are truths that can set us free from that confusion.

And yes, there are all different kinds of beliefs on this forum. But it is up to each one of us to seek God ourselves, and seek the truth of His word ourselves. It's not always easy work to do that, but from my experience, I definitely think it's worth it.
