Thanks for the warning Tomi. I know it's serious stuff, but I've read through lots of information about it, and there's a way to do it that's relatively safe. I'm going to insist my husband and dad do it safely.

I know two people at least that have removed ceilings like that with no protection at all. That's not good but maybe they will be fine. I read that it has mainly been people that have worked in jobs for years where they were continually exposed that have ended up with the lung cancer, etc. from it.

And then from what I read too, we've all been exposed to it quite a bit in our lives without even knowing it. Someone said it was in hair dryers, which blow right in your face, up until 1980. Why would they put it in hair dryers?

I can let myself get paranoid about things like this, but it does no good. My dad has bought this house, and he's going to remove those ceilings, and there's no way he will hire a professional because he just doesn't do stuff like that when he can do it himself, and so I just have to roll with it since there's nothing I can do about it. And my husband will insist on helping because my dad has helped us so much, and my husband could care less about toxins too. They both think I'm a bit of a paranoid freak about stuff like that, but they will catch hell from me if they don't do it safely. lol
