There are many considerations:

1/ What type of infection are you dealing with. This means several things such as sensitivity to the treatments*.

2/ State of the host immune response. The immune system is a critical part and I think this is overlooked. Immune response also includes endocrine response (mainly adrenal response). This is why you find adrenal fatigue in many people fighting infection. A solid adrenal response keeps the resistance strong. Nutrient support is critical.

*this is often neglected or not understood. There are many classifications of pathogens, nematodes would be just one example. There are a set of protocols that could be established for each grouping of pathogens. Testing can be helpful so you can target more effectively but as Mattk3 states, bombing might be a better choice.

Sensitivity in Science terms is the idea that not every organism is defeated by a remedy. It is the idea that pathogens respond differently to different medicines, be it natural or rx.

Some of the medicines have cross killing ability, for instance oregano may clear most bacteria and say yeast. Oftentimes, it is a best practice to use wide spectrum products so you have a better chance of killing.

Resistance may also play a role, in my experiences, adding anti resistant herbs has helped greatly. This includes goldenseal leaf (not root), hemp oil (not necessarily thc oil) and graviola. All of these can stop resistance and best used with the antimicrobials.
