A severe uptick in the incidence of a polio-like illness is worrying doctors and public health officials across the U.S. The CDC, concerned about a potential outbreak, has issued a public health warning.
In the summer of 2014, health authorities noticed a disturbing trend of heavily vaccinated children coming down with something that resembled polio. Over a hundred hospitalized patients have yet to recover. In some cases, a mysterious, paralytic condition of the face and limbs accompanied the sickness. The illness is called transverse myelitis, but it includes many sub-types producing various effects. One of the sub-types that have become most worrisome is acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM. (Myelitis stands for inflammation of the spinal cord.) The CDC reports that this mysterious illness likely stems from enteroviruses, just as polio does.
Speaking with The Atlantic, Keith Van Haren, a child neurologist at Stanford University School of Medicine, said, "It actually looks just like polio, but that term really freaks out the public-health people."
Weakened immune systems and damaged nervous systems give enteroviruses an easy way in
When an infected child's body naturally responds with a fever, and the fever is weak and ineffective at destroying the virus, the sickness may take hold and progress into other areas of the body. In an age of overall weakened immunity and chemically damaged nervous systems, something as routine as an enterovirus can find a way to inflame the neurological system, manifesting as AFM.
As the infection takes hold of the weakened immune system, it does damage to the fatty substance that protects the nerve cells. This inflammation along the width of the spinal column can lead to paralysis. As the child's body weakens, they begin to struggle with movement of their limbs, body and face, especially their tongue and eyes. It's a situation that is beginning to look a lot like polio.
Medical professionals today don't understand and cannot fully measure the many facets of the immune system. Where a fever is productive in one case, it may not be in another case, due to underlying deficiencies in the child's body or due to drugs that are suppressing the body's ability to defend itself.
Vaccine methodology apparently not working
We've heard the story repeated time and time again, that thanks to vaccines, poliomyelitis (polio) has been eradicated from the U.S. However, pre-exposure to pathogens alone does not take into account the many facets of the immune system that work together to keep the body strong in the face of all pathogens.
When the dead polio virus Salk vaccine was first introduced, the medical categorization of polio and other diseases changed as well. Before the vaccine, cases of aseptic meningitis and coxsackie virus were classified as polio too. After the vaccine was introduced, the data for all these infections was separated, artificially lowering polio numbers and giving the false impression that the vaccine was lowering polio cases.
In addition, widespread use of the insecticide DDT was popular at the height of the polio hysteria, poisoning central nervous systems and weakening immune systems, allowing benign viral infections to become full blown nervous system disorders that resemble what we call polio cases.
According to the hard data, death due to polio infections steadily declined throughout the 1900s, well before the dead virus and live virus vaccines were introduced. By the time the live virus vaccine was introduced, the CDC stated that most remaining cases of polio were due to the vaccines. The live virus remains in the throat for one to two weeks and in the feces for up to two months, permitting viral shedding that can transmit illness to others.
In the past five years, there have been 13,641 reports of adverse events following the use of the oral polio vaccine, leading to over 6,000 ER visits, further complications and 540 unnecessary deaths.
Today's dependence on increasing numbers of vaccine chemicals and pre-exposure to an ever increasing number of pathogens is obviously not working. It's the abandonment of sunlight, minerals in soils and nutrient/antioxidant consumption from food and plants that is causing generally weakened immunity in the population. Through lowered breast feeding rates, over-chemicalization of the food supply and increasing environmental toxins in the water supply, humans are creating a situation where benign viruses are becoming a grave threat to entire populations, manifesting yet again as neurological disorders.
