You are not separating spirit from the flesh that "dies". Yes the flesh dies, just like Jesus died...but came alive again. Did Jesus know nothing when He died? See nothing during those 3 days? What does scripture say?

1 Peter 3:18-19 Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison.

Jesus is God, so we have both the outer flesh image and an inner spirit image of the immortal, invisible God as well.

1 Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen

I don't think we should/can debate whether "choice" is involved because you believe you were chosen to be saved. I believe everyone has a chance to be saved, if they will believe. So of course I believe we are given a choice. No point going off that direction for another round.
