Re: Do people who have never heard the gospel go to hell?

you: They will want to die, but can't.

me: So do you disagree with Dobson when he says God respects human choice? These people that will end up in Hell didn't choose to be born, and they will not be able to choose to escape an eternity of torment either according to the traditional hell belief.

you: You have to ask yourself this question....Where does that breath go after you die? Now if you say that breath is just oxygen (and other things) that returns to the atmosphere, then we have already found our disagreement. For that breath is more than just oxygen. If we give God the credit for that breath of life....then what is it?

me: The breath of life, given by God, goes back to God when a person dies. When the first death happens, the breath of life goes back to God but then he will breathe life back into each person at the resurrection, for judgement day. After judgement day, the righteous (those in Christ) will receive their immortal, glorified bodies and go on to live with Christ for eternity.
The unrighteous will go to the lake of fire where they die the second death which is eternal, with no possibility of resurrection. And at the second death, their breath of life once again returns back to God.

you: if you are not part of the family, you will just be in that post death form of energy.

me: But where does it say that in the scriptures?
Also why does Psalm 104:28 and other passages say people will return to dust when God takes the breath of life from them if that is really not what happens?

John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Luke 20:35-36
but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

2 Peter 3:
The Day of the Lord Will Come
3 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2 that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3 knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4 They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6 and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

So God is going to burn up the old heavens and earth which has been corrupted by sin. He's going to do this by fire he says. It's going to be dissolved he says. Does this not sound like the lake of fire? Or is he going to destroy the old heavens and earth by fire but then he has another lake of fire somewhere else where people are thrown in but not actually ever destroyed, or ever perish?

Revelation 20:14 even says death and hades are going to be thrown in the lake of fire too. What does that mean? To me it means he is going to get rid of death forever. There's not going to be this place of eternal dying or living forever in a state of death, death is going to be destroyed forever!

John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Notice that the word "perish" in that John 3 passage is the same word used to describe what happened to the people in the flood in 2 Peter 3:6 up above. God sent the flood to destroy those people, and he will finally bring fire to destroy the wicked after judgement day and 2 Peter 3 is making that comparison, of the Flood with the Lake of Fire:

Genesis 6:17

"Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish.

2 Peter 3:7
But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

The people in the flood died in the flood. The people in the fire, will die in the fire. There are also scriptural references for the Lake of Fire to Sodom and Gomorrah, which was also a destruction by fire.
