Re: Five key truths that came to light which eventually lead me out of my Calvinism.
Comment from Prof. Leighton Flower's video version of this:
Dr. Flowers, I hope to view this video and respond point by point to many of the assertions which you make. But let me just say up front, that I am a convinced Calvinist, not because of tradition but because of Scripture. I was not raised in Calvinist churches by Calvinist parents, but in Arminian churches by Arminian parents. I had never read any of the Reformers or the Puritans, had never heard of John MacArthur or R.C. Sproul. I did, however, begin with a study on the sovereignty of God from the Bible. I wanted to see what the Bible had to say about God's sovereignty. Thus began a journey that lasted several years, starting in Genesis 1:1 and ending in Revelation 22:21. I recorded every verse I could find that directly addressed the sovereignty of God in all things whatsoever. I read no commentaries, listened to no sermons and read no books by a single Calvinist during this time. I didn't really even know about Calvinism. I began comparing verse to verse, in context. I spent thousands of hours charting, diagramming studying. Finally, I began sharing my findings, and one theology professor at DBU said, "That's Calvinism." I said, "What's that?" The professor then pointed me to a few authors who wrote from a Calvinistic perspective. I pulled and read a book by John Calvin entitled "Predestination". I was shocked. He was writing exactly what I saw in the pages of Scripture...exactly.
