Re: Emotionlessness for the Lord?
Well Dr. Brown supports both the NAR and Word of Faith, so I doubt he's going to have a balanced view.
There's also another problem with all the focus being on experiences, feelings, emotions, etc. in these movements. While I see nothing wrong with being emotional while worshipping God, and I believe God put all the emotions in us for good reason, if we put the focus on our feelings, emotions, and experiences, we are in trouble. And we've discussed this before but experiences, emotions, feelings, etc. come and go. If you put all the focus on those things, what happens when your feelings change, or God forbid you go through times of feeling numb even, or anger, or whatever?
If we don't have a solid foundation for our faith, that is immune to all the fluctuations of our emotions, feelings, and experiences, then we just live on shaky ground, and have nothing concrete to hold onto.
"My Hope is Built on Nothing Less"
by Edward Mote, 1797-1874
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
I think this comic by Adam Ford is great too, and it's true, feelings can be dirty, filthy, stinking liars so we cannot trust them!:
