Re: Emotionlessness for the Lord?
Well this is a little rough of Martin Luther, but this might be what he said to John MacArthur when he said he'd like to do away with music. lol
“A person who...does not regard music as a marvelous creation of God, must be a clodhopper indeed and does not deserve to be called a human being; he should be permitted to hear nothing but the braying of asses and the grunting of hogs."
I still think John MacArthur deserves to be called a human being. :) And hopefully he didn't really mean what he said there. I'm betting they have beautiful music at his church and that he enjoys it.
The danger is when people turn away from the study of scripture, and convince themselves and others that the study of the scriptures is dangerous and evil and leads to "bible worshipping". And then they make worship all about the music that ends up having no substance because it's not based on scripture.
Jesus Culture is part of the NAR and leading thousands into the NAR teachings. We can talk about whether they are getting too sensual with the music or not, but the bigger issue is what are they teaching?
I've talked before about how I'll be in the kitchen doing dishes or something, and I've got my pandora station on and suddenly this beautiful song will come on and I'll get all into it and be deeply moved by it, etc. and I'll look to see who it is, and it's Jesus Culture, or some other band like them. And I'll think to myself, this is how they are sucking people in, because the music is often very beautiful.
I know what the NAR teaches. I know where they are leading everyone, and it's straight into their power and control as well as the power and control of Rome. It's a dangerous movement and I'll keep warning people about it.
But I love me some good music. And I can get as emotional as anyone when I'm getting into my songs. I love to worship God through songs! My singing is terrible but I still have a feeling God enjoys my singing even if no one else does and my daughter tells me I hurt her ears. lol
But I'm not basing my theology on music but still relying on the scriptures for that, so I think I'll be okay MacArthur! :)
And one more thing, Jesus Culture is part of the whole grave sucking phenomenon. That is paganism. And there are many more pagan practices to go along with that.
