Counterproductive? Why would talking with God ever be counterproductive? For the Holy Spirit that dwells in a believer does not cause the believer to become God or a god. It's more like a husband and wife in marriage. They become one in a spiritual relationship but are still two different persons. Just like one talks to their spouse...believers talk to their God. Our thoughts are part of our communicating as well.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
There is an unfaithful wife and there is a faithful wife. What makes the faithful wife pure and unblemished? The blood of Jesus. She has put her faith in Him and what He has done...completely.
However, remember that we have not had the marriage supper of the Lamb...we are only in the engagement period. We are waiting for our Groom to return for us. Think of the deposit of the Holy Spirit within a believer as being a promise of His return. A promise ring (seal) that you are His. He is with you in Spirit while the Groom (Jesus) is away, preparing a home for us.
1 Corinthians 20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
