To be honest, the constant moisture method makes my lips very prone to peeling off due to being so weak from constant lubrication.
When they are dry, they don't seem to peel as much. What I have also noticed is that when I am peeling my lips, because of how disgusting they look, they get very inflamed, and grow to about twice the size. What this means to me is that they are slowly healing and I destroy that process.
I will add though that my EC also spreads when I completely leave them alone. Talking also becomes hard, and they seem to form splits everywhere from my movement of my mouth. The logic to me is that the body produces scabs, and that is all EC is, a scab trying to grow over the skin so it can heal.
If you haven't tried bactroban ointment yet, than I highly recommend. When I was using this ointment, my lips did not peel for 3 weeks until a new Dr. I went to see manually peeling them (f*** was I angry).
I just tried it again and got to 2 weeks before the sides fell off. I was extremely careful and made sure no food touched my lips, and I used a cotton ear bud to gently rub it onto the lips. The good thing about it is that it makes them look white instead of that yellow colour.
Anyway, I felt I had to share this as a coping strategy.
I have a few questions, how do you put lip balm on or lick your lips without the removal of the skin?
