Re: Painting with iodine

Providone Iodine is a gentle time release form of Iodine that was made for use on the skin. It is inexpensive and can be bought here in the USA at most drug or discount stores. It also is less staining than the more intense Lugol's solution. For instance the providone leaves a light brown stain on your skin, but it washes off with water, where the Lugol's solution will leave a dark brown stain in your skin that does not wash off, but lasts up to a day. I use both for different uses. The Lugol's will feel like it is burning open sores, while the Providone is much more gentle. Some do not reccomend taking the providone internally. I have, and noticed no ill effects. I think the Lugol's is better for trying to remove things like warts, birthmarks, moles, keloids, scar tissue, and etc. But the gentler providone is my reccomendation for open sores, sensitve skin, and painting large areas.
