I would say both negative emotions and suppression can illness or atleast cause extreme fear and anxiety to the point that adrenalin is being released in your body. (I know form experience) which causes the body to become acidic.
If you disconnect with the fear, that makes all the difference in the world, but if you are right in the middle of strife, I would go to great lengths to distance yourself as much as you can.
I'd say to get away from it, go to your car or go outside in nature and get some sense of peace and relief.
Get some earphones that you cannot hear outside noise with ... play relaxing music or go on youtube and listen to calming music/ocean waves/ etc. Go buy a tent and learn to love camping .. that may sound crazy, but my friend just went on a camping trip and she said her family did not argue one time and she felt more peace than she has in a long time.
