The "ALA" in flax seed oil is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential Omega3 fatty acid that the body uses to repair cell structures such as cell membranes with their delicate hormone receptors (with the potential to reduce hormonal resistance).
The same acronym "ALA" is also used for brevity when referring to the chelator alpha lipoic acid.
These are two different chemicals!!!
The activity of ALA the _chelator_ will cause cell membranes to experience damage in the process of releasing toxic metals from cells. At this point, the cells need additional fatty acids such as alpha-linolenic acid in order to make repairs. You need both "ALA"s.
With alpha-linolenic acid (the Omega3 fatty acid), you can take unlimited amounts, any time day or night (be careful though: Omega3s easily go rancid and they would do more damage than good. When taking flax seed, you have to grind it shortly before consumption. Whole seeds can't be digested).
On the other hand, with alpha _LIPOIC_ acid, you have to be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS in following the Cutler protocol (if you are toxic, and who isn't toxic nowadays, to one degree or another!). Alpha lipoic acid is SAFE, what is NOT safe are the toxic metals that it will bind to. Please read the Cutler book.
