These were my blood pressure readings during 2002 and 2003, by hour of day. Hour 1 is 1am (153/93) and hour 13 is 1pm (151/98). These were two long years of my blood pressure averaging 151/96 every hour of every day (based on 2,455 bp readings).
Every night between 10pm and midnight (20-24), my diastolic averaged at least 100! I was scared out of my mind! I tried every different kind of blood pressure medication available and nothing worked! :(
I am very lucky that I lived, or did not stroke out, during those years, especially considering that I was also dealing with Heart Failure, Permanent Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Valve Disease.
My blood pressure now averages 122/72 every hour of every day, all the time. I am feeling better at age 70 than I did when I was 50 and am doing so well, I have stopped going to my cardiologist.
How did I do this? A significant contributing factor was DIET. I went on a very healthy, small meal, frequent eating, low glycemic, ovo-vegetarian diet of 50% carbs, 30% fats and 20% proteins; with a total calorie load (less fiber) for the day of about 1400 calories. I have eaten around six small meals a day over the past 10 years. If I had a choice I would gladly and quickly go back to pizza and chicken wings and snacking and fast food and eating out. Fortunately, I found out what could greatly improve my health and my life and I stayed with it.
A healthy diet can do wonders for one's health. It is a most powerful medicine. However... I would not expect many to go on a diet like this, unless they also have serious, life-threatening health problems, like me. I have to diet like this. If I stray off my diet, my symptoms get worse and my health gets worse.
Just wanted to pass this on to others with serious, life-threatening illness, reflected by high blood pressure, and who might be on an unhealthy diet.
